They offer a regular style called Kwik Stix and a thin style of Kwik Stix called Thin Stix. They also offer lots of colors. How We Used Thin Stix:

I was thrilled to be given another wonderful opportunity to review Thin Stix with my kids! We love using Thin Stix in our home ever since we reviewed Thin Stix 6 Pack of Classic Colors earlier this year.

This kit is so much more! It has the bold 6 classic colors plus + more classic colors for a total of 12. Then it has 6 Neon colors plus 6 Metallix colors too, for a total of 24 vibrant colors of tempera paint sticks. The Metallix colors are really speacial because they have a sparkle effect that reflects the light.

Thin Stix are easy to use and hold on to that even my youngest kids can do art projects easily. It is as simple as taking off the cap and using them. If you need a little more paint, then you simply twist the bottom of the stick like a tube of chapstick. The paint comes up at the other end and you are ready to simply draw with them again. They are mess free and ready to paint with. There is no need for water and no clean up. I am always looking for projects my kids can do that are simple, and I especially like MESS FREE arts and crafts! Check out this short video that shows how mess free they really are:

Art Class Fall Season Painting

We took a walk and looked at trees and gathered a few fall leaves for inspiration and to inspect the colors of fall more closely.

The kids found similar colors in the Thin Stix and used their own creativity to paint a fall scene.

These are so cute! You can use them for just about anything you need to organize. Kids could use them for their Thin Stix and art supplies, Legos, crayons, etc. You could use them in your drawers to hold socks or miscellaneous items. You could use them to hold fruit (or candy) on the counter. It could hold napkins on the table as a cute centerpiece too.

These containers are so cute and just the right size. They are so simple to make. They are small enough to fit into a backpack or purse. They can hold a variety of things from art supplies, small journal, cell phone, camera, first aide, small sowing kit, to snacks, etc. They will make great gifts to give away too.

I can’t wait to share the finished product of this project. Stay tuned for another story. This was so easy to make and personalize using our Thin Stix. It can fit easily into a backpack or purse and hold a huge variety of of foods from sandwiches, juice boxes, granola bars, crackers, fruit, bags of veggies, fruit cups, yogurt, etc.

The lunch boxes are not water tight, but they will prevent your foods from getting smashed in your bag or backpack. It has a lid and is large enough to keep several loose items altogether, so it is easy to pull it out and have everything inside the lunch box without searching for something that got misplaced. These containers are special because you made them yourself. You can also use this to organize various non-food items too.

The kids had a lot of fun learning about butterflies and making their own creations.

Candle Flower Art

(Thin Stix & Recycled Milk Jugs) The kids had a lot of fun cutting out their petals, painting them with Thin Stix colors like Metalix Purple and Classic Purple, and hot glueing the petals together to create lovely flowers.

Then they attached a small tea candle in the center of the flower.

These lovely candle holders will look very pretty on our table, and we made some to give away too.

If you want a safer version without a flame, then instead of using real candles, use battery operated candles. They will look just as beautiful.

I am also amazed how durable these paints are. I painted these pots with Thin Stix 6 Pack of Classic Colors several months ago. Even after the rains and later the scorching heat on the back deck all summer, the bugs and flowers we painted my pots have endured and still look great!

Final Thoughts:

I really like the fact these tempera paints (Kwik Stix and Thin Stix) are mess free. I also like the fact they have so many applications, they are portable so you can take them with you, and you can use them to personalize your space, beyond just using them on a piece of paper.

Feel Beautiful with Koru Naturals Review

Whenever you buy Manuka products, be sure they are sourced from New Zealand to be guaranteed to have the most beneficial qualities. “What is Manuka Honey and Manuka Oil?”

This might be a question you have, I know when I first heard the word “Manuka” several years ago, I didn’t know what it was and what it wasn’t. Sometimes I heard it called Manuka and sometimes it was called Tee Tree and other times I heard Tea Tree referred to as Melaleuka, so it was a bit confusing to me for a long time.

After doing some research I learned there is a shrub like tree in New Zealand called Manuka. It has antiseptic, anti fungal, anti parasite, and anti bacterial properties. Manuka is similar to Manuka, Kanuka, and another tree called Melealuka. It is thought that is origionated in Austalia and perhaps “morphed” into it’s present stronger healthier version in New Zealand. Scientists are not sure how it escaped from the mainland of Austrailia. Perhaps it didn’t escape at all, but is a slightly different variation from the beginning of creation by a loving God.

Though Tea Tree (Manuka, Melaleuka, Kanuka, etc) is grown today in several places around the world, only the New Zealand Manuka Tea Tree has the desired properties. There are many countries selling tea tree oil labled Manuka, but don’t be fooled!!!

For many years I did not understand the difference in the kinds and quality of tea tree oils. I began using tea tree oils many years ago as part of our first aid kit on our family’s ouchies, infections, and added it to shampoo and my soap making craft projects for several years. Then about three years ago, I bought my first jar of Manuka honey from New Zealand to try. My family had gone through an illness and I felt having Manuka honey on hand would make a difference in relieving the symptoms and speeding recovery. I learned right away that Manuka honey is a lot more expensive than other kinds of honey, and it has a dark color, is thicker than any honey I have used before, almost like caramel, and it has a very robust flavor. It almost has a stinging sensation when I swallow a spoonful of raw Manuka honey because it is so powerful. It has been used for thousands of years to boost people’s health and wellness and is useful to fight colds, flu’s, and infections and is a wonderful food source for energy.

For the purpose of writing this review, I went on a deeper search for a good description of the Manuka Tree that the honey and essential oil that I have come to love over the years is made from. The word Manuka is a specific kind of Tea Tree. Though some sellers misuse the term and sell products labeled Manuka from other countries, it is not real Manuka. Real true Manuka is specific to New Zealand that has a perfect growing environment for it, and has properties that differ from other kinds of similar Tea Tree plants. 10,000 tons of tea tree oil is produced and sold every year, but only 1,800 tons of it is true Manuka. So be wise when purchasing your oil and honey and skin care products and don’t let advertising fool you.

“Leptospermum scoparium, commonly called mānuka, manuka myrtle,[1] New Zealand teatree,[1] broom tea-tree,[2] or just tea tree, is a species of flowering plant in the myrtle family Myrtaceae, native to New Zealand and southeast Australia.” Source

The Manuka Tree is a shrub like tree and grows most often from 7 feet to around 16 feet tall, but it can grow as high as 49 feet tall. It has prickly leaves, white (sometimes pink) five petal flowers, and hard wood that has been used to make tool handles and for smoking meats. The sap is anti parasite and used by wild birds to prevent parasite infestations. The tree is mainly cultivated for both honey (bees making honey from the nectar of the Manuka flowers), and for the leaves that are steamed distilled and made into essential oil. The tree got it’s nickname “Tea Tree” from Captain Cook who made a tea drink with them in the 1700’s. (Description of Manuka paraphrased from Manuka related articles on Wikipedia)

How We Are Using Super Teacher Worksheets In Our Home

I am so excited to have this resource! It has enhanced what we are doing. If I want the kids to practice more on certain skills we have a worksheet for that. If I want them to do a quiz, I can find several worksheets to cover it. If I want to expand their learning with unit study on a specific subject, I have found so many great resources on this website that I can include to further the learning. I am just thrilled!

We are using these worksheets to supplement almost every subject of our learning this fall. So far I have printed off math, language arts, phonics, spelling, history, geography, nutrition, and found worksheets for our dinosaur unit study, human body unit study, and more.

There is something to go along with everything you are doing, and if something isn’t there, you can create your own using the tools on the site too. There is also a feature for the kids to create their own calendars. I can’t wait to be able to use these worksheets for the up coming holiday season this fall. These resources will give a nice touch to our learning during the holidays too.

We are studying the History and Geography of the USA. I found maps of the USA and some with latitude and longitude coordinates. The kids had to use the clues to locate the city and state the meet the coordinates listed. I found a wonderful State Report for the kids to work on. The report is about 9 pages long and there are interesting things to do on each page that relate to the state you are studying. We started off learning about Indiana state history and geography since we live in Indiana. Really proud of my 12 year old son’s handwriting. He is doing such a great job since taking a handwriting course, and all of these awesome worksheets are giving him plenty of hands on practice to implement his writing skills. I also saw there were handwriting worksheets to get in more practice and guided instruction as needed too. I plan to implement the handwriting worksheets with all the children next week.

My opinion is that every homeschool family (and anyone else working with kids) needs to subscribe to this program. There is so much to do and learn and the kids will have fun learning too.

More About Super Teacher Worksheets:

There are many simple tasks we can implement to boost our health year around. During the cold and flu season it is especially important to pay attention to the choices we are making and intentionally strengthen our immune system.

Even the most basic changes in our daily habits of how we sleep, drink, eat, move, use essential oils, detox, and use superfood supplements can be life changing. If you find yourself frequently fighting infections, and feeling “under the weather”, daily use of essential oils combined with these simple steps can boost your immune system.

Essential Oils To Boost Your Health:

Essential oils by doTerra can be an easy and affordable component in building a balanced immune system and keeping it working strong. As a matter of fact, essential oils can be a human’s best friend in nearly every area of life 24 hours a day. They can be used in self-care, whole family care (from birth to old age), pet care, home care, education, gardening, farming, therapy, disease protocol. Even if you choose not to use them 24/7, then at least use them in your immune system tool kit.

Specific oils can be weapons of mass destruction and shields of protection against nearly everything that comes against the human immune system, and many have already been scientifically proven to be more effective than most pharmaceuticals on the market today. When your body goes into the repair shop, it could use a few specific tools. Essential oils are the tools that can assist you in boosting your immune system.

Sleep:
It is so easy to forget how important sleep is for protecting our immune system. Since we do it everyday, most of us just take it for granted. For example it is best to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep and to go to bed by 10:30 to get a good nights rest and reach REM sleep in which the brain puts the body into a detoxing and repair mode. Your body literally goes to your own built-in repair shop when you go into REM sleep. If we don’t reach this restful state of sleep, the body gets behind in its repairing process. To help you get to sleep at this healthy hour, be sure to put away anything with a lit screen (TV, Smartphone, Computer, Bright lighted room) at least one hour before bedtime. Instead of TV or computer time, read in soft light, or listen to relaxing music, or even take a relaxing bath to get your body and mind ready to go to bed. Essential oils can assist you in relaxing and getting a good nights sleep. Some can be applied to the feet or massaged into the muscles, neck, etc. Also use a diffuser in the room and use calming oils for you and your children to help you relax and sleep well.

Drink:
Another wise choice to boost your immune system, is to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated throughout the day. All of the body systems need water to run efficiently. When we get dehydrated the body suffers and our immune system is weakened. I recently read that many folks who survived the Ebola infection were the ones who were able to stay hydrated and drink at least 100 oz or more of water. That volume of clean water in their location is hard to come by per person each day, and many are loosing their battle with Ebola because their immune system is weakened. When we are hydrated our immune system can function at its best to protect us.

To boost our immune system there are specific oils that are safe for internal use that we can add to our drinking water that help to kill infections from virus and bacteria and mobilize our defense system. It’s like bringing in the Calvary to the battle.

Eat:
Eating right, getting plenty of rest, moderate activity, and staying hydrated are the basic foundation of a healthy life. Eating right involves eating a variety of nutrient dense foods and avoiding “Franken foods” (man-made foods that have been seriously altered from their natural state or ingredients that were never food in the first place).

Some of the foundational foods we should include in our diet are:
1) Fresh organic fruits and vegetables that provides live enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, carbohydrates, fiber, and more.
2) Bone broths that provide dissolved and easily assimilated minerals,
3) Healthy fats like cold pressed coconut oil, cold pressed olive oil, grass-fed butter, free range eggs, fresh raw milk with cream, sprouted nuts, etc.
4) Cultured foods like yogurt, sour cream, raw cheese; also fermented foods like pickles, chutney, kimchi, and kraut; and fermented beverages like coconut water kefirs, dairy kefirs, new wines, kombucha, etc. Cultured and fermented foods provide so many amazing nutrients that are ready to digest for easily assimilated vitamins, live probiotics to aid digestion of our other foods, and the healing and protective strategy they provide the digestive tract.
5) Herbs, spices, and essential oils for flavor and their protective qualities.
6) In moderation, animal proteins from Grass-fed and wild caught animals, such as wild salmon, wild deer, or grass-fed beef. It is very important that these animals eat as natural as they would in the wild. This is the best way to ensure the nutrition for them and for you is at the right level and not out of whack. If you don’t have access to this kind of meat, it is better to go without than to try to use factory farmed animal proteins that result in disease for the animals and the humans that consume them.

Beyond these basic areas, not much else is needed for food for the human body’s nutrient needs. A few other enjoyable foods that still contain intensive nutrients are fine in moderation too such as: raw honey, maple syrup, un-sulfered molasses, succanant or rapadura sugar, lohan fruit sugar, coconut sugar, sprouted organic or chemical free grains, sprouted organic legumes, etc. but don’t over eat these as they can raise the blood sugar level, upset the digestive system, etc.

Specific essential oils that are safe for ingesting can be used as remedies but also used to flavor food, wash food, enhance digestion, enhance metabolism, used in home remedies, and to boost the immune system. Many essential oils are anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal. So you get the combined benefit of making your food taste great, and boosting the immune system at the same time.

Avoid eating white sugar, and white flour, and grain alcohol. This is another simple task we can do to stay healthy. White grains and sugars are basically sugar in the blood stream and hard on the body organs. They can weaken the digestive system, neurological system, endocrine system, and the immune system. We are talking about the immune system specifically in this post so it is important for you to know that white sugar interferes with the white blood cell’s ability to fight infections. White sugar is really dangerous to the immune system because it literally immobilizes and weakens the fighter cells to less than 25% of their fighting capability for several hours after consuming white sugar. It stops the conversion of vit. D to vit C and also blocks receptor sites and blocks the white blood cells from accessing the vitamin C and vitamin A rendering them useless in an attack. That is why we get sick so easily when we consume a high sugar diet. Sugar has a long half-life in the blood stream and the white blood cells do not return to their full fighting capacity for several hours, and for some people it can take a day or two to get it their immune system back up to normal, even when we have consumed as little as a few teaspoons of sugar. This is why the Standard American Diet can be so dangerous. Imagine if you consumed this small amount of sugar everyday, which most Americans consume way more. Your immune system would be vulnerable to all kinds of attacks on a constant basis and would not have the ability to efficiently protect you. Adding in anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal essential oils helps a person have more of a chance to fight infections when perhaps their diet isn’t the best.

Supplements:
For various reasons, the human body may lack certain needed nutrients to function at its optimal capacity. It could be due to dietary choices we make, but it could also be due to illness, medications, stress, toxins, disease, etc. all of which can have long-term negative effects on the body and suppress its functioning.

One way to improve your nutritional intake and jump-start the healing process is to use superfoods and superfood supplements. Superfoods are a concentrated form of all natural nutrients. These are nutrients that naturally exist in nature, and we when eat them in a concentrated form, they can provide the tools we need to repair and renew our bodies. Supperfoods come in various ways, such as liquid, or dried and ground into powder, perhaps the liquids or powders are added to capsules, or left as a powder or liquid to stir into drinks or smoothies. Some superfoods are made into extracts and oils too.
