Sticky Situations

Not a day goes by that I don’t find myself in a sticky situation.  With six kids, “sticky situations” are the norm at our house.

I just entered the STICKY SITUATIONS CONTEST by Wet Ones and Mom Central going on right now through December 28th.  They are asking moms to share tips on how they handle sticky situations with their kids.

You can  Enter The Contest and submit your ideas for a chance to be featured in an e-book that will be distributed by Wet Ones in 2013.  Several prizes are being offered, including a chance to win an iPad Mini, and tickets to Six Flags amusement theme park.  It is real simple to enter, and only takes a minute to fill out their form and submit a picture if you have one.  I entered the contest and I hope you will too.   Please vote for us too.

Below are a few pictures of the sticky situations we have found ourselves in.  I thought it might be fun to share some of our family’s sticky business with you.

Whether we are at home or on the go, life can be sticky!   I find us in all sorts of sticky situations at the park, field trips, when visiting friends houses, playing at the lake, eating out, while shopping, trips to the zoo, traveling in the car, and anywhere and everywhere we go, our life is filled with icky and sticky situations.

I am so blessed to have all of these little hands and feet to clean.  I wouldn’t trade it for a minute.  They have an inquisitive way of finding the dirtiest, messiest, ickiest, and stickiest places to investigate.

Learning moment by moment, each new experience brings a deeper desire to know more.  Creatures of all shapes and sizes are held tenderly, snuggled close, and played with.  No matter how horrified mom might be at the sight.

Touching brings new understanding of the world around us.  It also brings exposure to more than a few “germs” and toxins.  Some exposure to these germs is important in helping us build a strong immune system, but many are not and we need to wipe the dirt and grime away or wash off when we are through.  Soap and water are not always available, so I reach for the wipes to do the clean up.

And when it comes to eating, my kids seem to think food somehow tastes better when you can wear some of it too.  I am so excited though to see them on their “first” of trying something new.  Like when my baby tried his first taste of ice cream, and a few months later, his first taste of cake too.

I just accept that eating is a sticky business when you are young.  So I plan ahead and keep a stash of wipes with me to clean up after eating.

I am constantly reaching for the wipes to clean up the sticky mess before it spreads like a wild fire to other, not so easy to clean, places.

Handy Tips:

Let the kids get sticky, icky, grimy, and messy as they explore and learn about the world around them.  But keep a stash of wipes handy at ALL times!

        1.  I keep wipes in my purse for wiping off unexpected buggers and snot that
needs cleaned up before going into a store.
        2.  I keep wipes in my purse to wipe off the handel bar of a shopping cart, and
to wipe the kids off after they have touched the check out counter at the store.
The kids are better off after having a great “sticky situation” and
 “hands on” learning experience.

Premama Vitamin Giveaway

I don’t like swallowing a big pill!  But when you are pregnant, it seems the only choices for a prenatal vitamin taste like YUCK! and are really big pills, or 6 pills to equal the really big pill.  Don’t even get me started on the taste that just makes your nausea a never ending saga.

I am so happy to learn the news of expecting a new baby, yet I dread taking prenatal vitamins that are supposed to help me and the baby through out the pregnancy.  Prenatal vitamins steel much of the joy, because they are such a pain to swallow and make me feel like puking all day long.

I tried liquid vitamins, but they always contain preservatives, like benzoates, that I am allergic to.  I end up with muscle aches and other side effects from the preservatives they use to keep the product from spoiling.

I always told my husband if they could just put the important ingredients in a powder without preservatives, and if I could hide it in my juice, it would be great.  I did find a vitamin powder during my last pregnancy but it tasted and smelled worse than the horsepills!  And it wouldn’t dissolve so it floated on top of my drink.  I tried to hide it with crushed ice, but as I crunched the ice the undissolved powder felt gritty and still tasted bad.  No mater how long I looked or what product I tried I could not find a good solution for me.

Now, I have found a prenatal vitamin that is all natural, free of preservatives, in powdered form that dissolves and is orderless and flavorless, though they are working on creating a flavored product too.  It is called Premama.

If you are pregnant and need some relief from really big pills and awful tasting vitamins, you might want to check out Premama.  Their slogan is “Goodbye, prenatal horsepills.  Hello Premama.”

Premama Prenatal Vitamins are a flavorless powdered drink mix.  It comes in convenient pre-measured packs so you always take the exact amount you need, and you can take it with you in your purse or where ever you go.   You can mix it into 12 oz of juice, fruit flavored beverages, ice tea, and milk.

Here is quote about Premama from their website:

“Doctor-recommended Premama is a flavorless, prenatal vitamin drink mix. It is complete with key prenatal vitamins and minerals—including folic acid, iron, DHA, CoQ10 and calcium—that help greatly reduce the chances of some birth defects, when taken appropriately. Premama’s ingredients have also been shown to help relieve common prenatal vitamin side-effects, such as nausea and constipation.

Each daily serving of Premama may be consumed in two equally divided doses. Processed in FDA-regulated facilities, Premama also contains USP Verified and Food and Drug Administration GRAS nutrients not typically found in combination with other prenatal supplements.

Key ingredients include

  • Biotin: May help support embryo growth*1
  • B Vitamins: Help provide energy*
  • DHA Omega-3 fatty acid: Suggested to support fetal cognitive development and protection against postpartum depression*2,3
  • Vitamin D3: Supports mom and baby’s bone health*
  • Proprietary Iron blend: Can help lower the risk of preterm birth and low birth-weight; gentle on the system*4
  • Coenzyme Q10: May help protect against preeclampsia during pregnancy*5
  • Choline: Used, along with folic acid, to help further protect against neural tube defects*6
  • Ginger Root: Helps with nausea relief*7
  • Folic Acid: Clinically proven to reduce the risk of some birth defects by up to 70%*8,9 “

Though I am not currently pregnant, I am nursing my baby.  It is recommended that all women of childbearing age take prenatal vitamins from age 15 to 50.  Taking prenatal vitamins can help reduce the risk of birth defects and as many as 50% of women become pregnant without intending to become pregnant.

Wow, before researching this, I did not realize that 50% of pregnancies are unplanned.  I personally plan that everytime I am intimate, I may become pregnant, therefore I am always expecting to be pregnant.  I guess it is just a different way of looking at life and my role as a wife and mother.  But I know most women today in our modern culture don’t expect to be pregnant from being intimate.

So if you are a female, whether you are pregnant, nursing, intimate and expecting to get pregnant or not, or between the ages of 15-50, it is recommended by lots of doctors and the March Of Dimes, that you take a daily prenatal vitamin.

I sure wish this product had been available when I began using prenatal vitamins.  So many times I skipped taking my vitamins because I could not stomach the smell, the taste, and the awful chore of swallowing the vitamins.  This is so easy to mix into my juice and drink it.

Here are some pictures of my Premama vitamin powder, and I mixed it into 12 oz of organic orange juice.  YUMM!  I have never said that about a prenatal vitamin before.  Oh, Oh, Oh, I am so thrilled!

Here I put the powder on black paper so you can see the it up close.  It is about a tablespoon worth and comes prepackaged in these little packets.

Here is the vitamin packet sitting next to my juice. Here I poured it into the juice but didn’t stir.

Here I have stirred it with my spoon.  It completely disolved in just a few stirs.  Wow.  The juice tastes the same.  There is no change in flavor or texture of the juice.  I drank it all down and it was delicioius.

Check out this nutrition label from the Premama prenatal vitamin.

This product is gluten free and preservative free too!   Keeping it gluten free is wise because so many people have trouble with gluten, and this product will be able to reach the needs of more people.

I am on a mission to tell moms everywhere about Premama.  I no longer have to worry about the side effects of preservatives in vitamins, or about taking huge smelly pills that cause me to gag.  Now, taking my vitamins is as simple as drinking my favorite drink.

Premama retails for $25 for a 1 month supply.  You can buy a 3, 6, or 9 month supply and receive FREE SHIPPING.   You also receive a big discount when you order 6 month supply (save $25) or a 9 month supply (save $50).

Now for some more really exciting news.  Premama is offering ONE of my readers a free 30 day supply of Premama Prenatal Vitamins.

The Butterfly Bakery Giveaway

Delicious, moist, and sweet, that is how I would describe The Butterfly Bakery Gluten Free baked goods.

It is not often that you could describe gluten free bakery products as delicious.

The Butterfly Bakery makes all their products with wholesome ingredients.
They call it 100% love!

My kids can eat a wide variety of foods.  I am very thankful for this.  But many children can not.  Gluten intolerance is a real problem for many adults and children.  When I owned a healthy foods store, I stocked the shelves with gluten free products that were special for kids.  Most parents had me order a long list of specialty flours for their recipes to try to make tasty treats for their kids on special diets.

My kids loved this cake.  It is made with 100% Whole Grain Teff flour.  It has 14% more protein than regular wheat flour.  It also supplies a good amount of potassium, vitamin B, and fiber.

Every single morsel disappeared.

I was really impressed with the quality, taste and texture ofTthe Butterfly Bakery products.  They don’t ad tons of sugar or salt to try to hide an inferior product.  They have done a great job at mastering a difficult task, taking traditional foods like cake and cookies we all enjoy and making them just as delicious for someone on a gluten free diet.

We also enjoyed The Butterfly Bakery’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies and fresh raw milk straight from the farm for a picnic one afternoon.

These cookies, along with some fresh raw milk and fruit was our desert.

These cookies went perfectly with fresh milk!  They don’t fall apart.  The cookies have a delicious cookie taste and lightly sweet with bits of chocolate.  They reminded me a bit of shortbread cookies.  They had the perfect crunch and blend of flavors.

My children and I liked both the Gluten Free Espresso Creme Cake and the Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies. Both products were made of high quality ingredients and tasted delicious. If you are searching for a well made gluten free bakery item, I encourage you to try the baked goods from The Butterfly Bakery.

The Butterfly Bakery began in 1998 when Brenda Isaac decided to bake her own sugar free baked goods for her mom who was a diabetic.   She now has over 75 different varieties of baked goods for restrictive / specialty diets in stores everywhere.

The Butterfly Bakery has several specialty lines of products.  Each line has its own distinct colored flower label.  The specialty lines and label colors includes:
Gluten Free  – Orange Flower.
Sugar Free – Pink Flower
No Sugar Added – Blue Flower
Low Calorie – Purple Flower
Whole Grain – Yellow Flower

The Butterfly Bakery products are available in healthy food stores, grocery stores, and through Amazon.

Check your local area to see if the Butterfly Bakery is sold in a store near you.   If it is not, the The Butterfly Bakery has a letter you can print off and give to your local grocery store to request their products.

Their products are also available on Amazon and ship right to your door.  Now that is convenience!

The Butterfly Bakery is offering one of my readers a Gluten Free Prize Package.  The Gluten Free Prize Package will contain two items from their gluten free line of products.  The Butterfly Bakery will choose what items they send the winner.

I am currently making a poster for our 4 H club. I plan to use it in a table display for presentations at various places like the county fair and 4H meetings. I am using a collage of several pictures from our meetings and having it printed by UPrinting. I will show you what it looks like when it arrives. I am so excited!
